Adams & Westlake was one of the largest railway lantern manufacturers out there. They’re still in business today and still make their famed Adlake Kero lanterns. They also made all kinds of locks & keys, lighting and railway hardware. One of their more popular models first made around 1912 until the early 1920’s was the “Adlake Reliable”. The Reliable is good strong lantern, easy to see why it was popular. I’ve seen quite a number of Canadian marked Reliable’s for a number of railways.
The Canadian National Railway was formed in 1918 through a merger of the Canadian Northern Railway, Canadian Government Railway’s, because of the failing Canadian Northern Railway. In 1923, the struggling Grand Trunk Railway would be merged into the Canadian National.
