1883-1885 No.0 Genuine Safety

DTL made two versions of this lantern, the Steam Gauge & Lantern Lift Wire, and this one, which I call the “Finger Pull”. Unfortunately the catalogue DTL put out doesn’t differentiate names between the two models. This one lacks a guard so it’s pre-1885. It also doesn’t have the wrap around bail DTL used on most lanterns. These soldered “bail clips” are the same as what Steam Gauge & Lantern used.

When I bought this lantern it had no bottom, so I soldered on a new one I got from a donor. Dominion Tubular lanterns came with a Dietz burner originally, this one still has that Dietz burner.
