One of my favourite types of lanterns are these wall mounted searchlights. This one was made by E.T. Wright in the 1890s to 1905. These lanterns were used for carriage headlights, porch lights, factories, mills, railway stations. Basically anywhere a person needed lots of light spread out over a big area, hence the ‘searchlight’ name.
This lantern is in excellent shape. I’ve been mulling over the possibility of painting this blue to recreate the original finish put on these lanterns by the factory. There was slight remnants of that finish when I originally got this lantern.
