I’m not sure about when the Comet lantern was first produced. Its first appearance in advertising was in the late teens, however I suspect it was actually around 1913. I’ll update when I can find out for sure. The Comet was ETW’s hot blast lantern line until E.T. Wright & Co was bought out.
Interestingly, the Comet is a near carbon copy of the R.E. Dietz “Monarch” lanterns of the time. Even down to the wing lock cones. The burner is an ETW burner however. This Comet differs slightly from my brass Comet. This one has a bead along the top of the fount, just below the curved top. I’m not sure when the change happened though.
